  I didn't live in Mercy Suites, but I lived in Lewis Apartments which were still part of on-campus housing. These apartments are quite old and are in dire need of renovation. It is apparent that they have never sanded the walls when repainting, as the paint is very thick on the walls. As a result, it peels off constantly, falling off my door every time I close it. They also didn't bother to cover the furniture when painting, as nearly every piece has specs of paint on it. The carpets in my apartment looked new, except for my room. They didn't bother to replace the carpet in my room, which was heavily soiled and stained. At least they could have steam cleaned it. As for the beds, mine is a twin XL without any springs for support. The support for my mattress comes in the form of a piece of plywood and 2 wooden slats underneath. I think I got the bad luck of the draw, as the apartments some of my friends have are a little bit nicer. I lived at the end of Lewis avenue right next to 38th street, so the noise from the road was almost unbearable. Even if my apartment was nice, the road noise would negate that completely. Overall, over-priced at $1000 per month per person ($4000 per semester) for a 2 bedroom. (You can rent a 3000 sq. foot house for $2000 a month in Erie...no joke) The only thing they have going for them is the fact that they are close to campus and the laundry is free. I was a grad student coming in and was unsure of the area, so I decided to play it safe and pay up for campus housing. Don't make the mistake I did. Unfortunately, there are few privately owned apartments near campus. Tanglewood apartments on Grandview are the closest and nicest you will find near campus. Also, look for some of the local realtors, as they rent out townhouses relatively close to campus as well.
